Carian Trail Hiking and Camping Tour Details

A three-day taster of Turkey’s newest and longest waymarked path, the Carian Trail!

The Carian Trail is an 800 km long distance walking path exploring the South Western corner of Turkey .The trail is named after the Carian civilization discovering a region rich in ancient ruins and history, stone paved caravan roads and mule path connecting villages from the coast to a mountainous hinterland. Pine forest cloak mountain slopes with olive terraces and almond grove in the valley’s make up an important part of the regions economy. The trail accesses a lesser known and unspoilt region full of colour and tradition along with spectacular scenery.

Tour Itinerary: 3 -Days
Day 1. Bodrum -Kızılağaç-Çilek-Çiftlik (20 km)
The hike starts from the streets of Bodrum reaching the Casa Castello. The route is a combination of paths and forest roads with fantastic views of Bodrum. Passing through the olive grooves the trail will take you to mainroad in Kızılağaç,This is a nice walking through non-touristic little villages and olive grooves. You will see some cisterns and the ruins castle of Theangela, which was another Lelegian city, before descending to Çiftlik.

Day 2. Çiftlik -Çakıllıyalı- Kisebükü – Mazı walking trail (24 km )
Today’s route is mostly on path. There will be almost no sign of civilization until Çakıllıyalı. The endulating path goes down to Kisebükü where you will see some remnants of a Byzantine settlement.Çakıllıyalı The route passes through many pebble beaches before reaching Mazı.

Day 3. Mazı – Gökbel – Bozalan – Ören (Keramos) (25 km )
Today’s walk is a combination of paths and dirt roads with mostly climbing. Gökbel and Bozalan villages are famous for their carpets. So, you may get a chance to see women weaving carpets. Not all but some parts of the trail will be shaded. Bozalan this is the junction for the Carian Hinterland section. Take the direction to Ören. The trail goes inland with views of mountain side before heading down to Türkevleri. Fantastic views of the coast and Alatepe with views of Ören and beyond. The trail goes through some forest roads and paths. Going through the olive grooves, the route descends down to Akbük. One of the best places on Carian Trail. End of the Tour in Keramos and Transfer to Hotels

The terrain of Carian Trail is rugged and hard under foot so walking boots or strong shoes with good ankle support are essential
• Also required are a day rucksack (20-40 litre), full waterproofs (early spring and autumn), fleece top, walking poles if used and a warm hat for the mountains
• Sun Protection: wide brimmed hat, sunglasses and high factor sun-cream
• Dress Code: shorts and T-shirts are fine for the warmer months- clients should not walk through villages with their tops off out of respect for Turkish and Islamic culture
• Picnic Lunches: are divided out amongst the group so everyone carries a share.
